Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill - La Bella - 4ply / Fingering

La Bella is the Great Ocean Road Woollen Mills most popular yarn range, using single sourced superfine Merino and stunning Alpaca. The name "La Bella" comes from the name of a shipwreck in nearby Warrnambool creating a link to the history and cultural past from the Great Ocean Road Woollen Mills corner of the world.

This special 100% Australian fingering weight Alpaca and Superfine Merino blend yarn feels incredibly soft. It is a two strand yarn. The yarn has been created to have a deliberate and unusual visual texture rather then a smooth blend therefore there is likely to be colour variations within each skein. The La Bella range uses natural fibres only to create the ‘coloured’ yarns  – they are NOT dye-lots! Therefore, there can be some ‘colour’ variation even within batches. These inconsistencies within the yarn only add to the special effect of this incredible yarn.

The merino is non-mulesed, superfine and has travelled ~300km from farm to scourer to us. It is gorgeously soft with amazing comfort and elasticity. It is a superfine, not super-washed, yarn. It is therefore as environmentally friendly as a yarn can be.

Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill carefully select all of their alpaca from specific breeders and all their fibre is from within Victoria.

Both fibres combine to make La Bella Yarn.

The Process :

The wool has been scoured to remove the lanolin, but it is not carbonised. It means that it is better for for you and the environment. Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill wash all of their alpaca fibre with rain water and a low phosphate detergent, therefore you may still find some grass seeds in the yarn.

Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill have designed this yarn by bringing both fibres together during the process to create this lovely Fingering/4ply alpaca merino yarn.

All of Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill yarns are semi-worsted.

The solar system supplies most of the electricity for the Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill processing.

Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill want to take care of their property, their land and their animals and strongly believe in being sustainable, ethical and environmentally responsible. These aren’t just words but a lifestyle and an ethos that is embedded in all of their yarns.
